THE CITY UNDER YOUR SKIN.

Discover how your body functions like a living city — from the nervous system as electricity to the immune system as city police. Learn how to keep your “Body City” healthy from the cellular level, especially after 40.

Have you ever stopped to think that your body could be compared to a city?
Yes… your very own Body City!

According to cellular biologist Dr. Bruce Lipton, your body houses an estimated 50 to 60 trillion individual cells — each one a tiny citizen working to keep you alive.
In his book The Biology of Belief, he even explains that each cell can live and reproduce independently under the right conditions.

In basic science, we learn that the cell is the basic unit of life.
Cells grow, feed, breathe, move, excrete, and eventually die. Some living things have just one cell (unicellular), while others — like you and me — have countless cells working together in harmony.

A group of similar cells forms a tissue.
Different tissues combine to form an organ.
Organs work together to form organ systems — and all systems together make you, the living, breathing organism.

Think of it this way: your body is a bustling city made up of trillions of hardworking citizens (cells) living under your skin.
Some are even friendly bacteria! 😄

And here’s the truth: you are the Mayor of this city.
Whether your citizens live in harmony (health) or disharmony (dis-ease) depends entirely on your choices and lifestyle.

It’s time to take care of your body — starting at the cellular level.

🌍 Your Body as a City

Imagine your body as a big African city — Accra, Lagos, or Nairobi.
It’s always busy, full of motion and energy.
From above, it may seem noisy and chaotic, but everything is actually working together beautifully.

Now, think of all the systems that keep a real city running:
security, electricity, roads, waste management, communication, and transport.
When one system breaks down, the whole city feels it — just like your body.

Let’s look at how your body’s systems compare to a real city 👇

1. Nervous System = The Electrical Grid

This is your city’s power supply.
It lights homes, runs traffic signals, and powers communication.

In your body, this is your brain and nerves sending fast messages like:
“Hey leg, move!” or “Hey hand, don’t touch that hot pot!”

When the lights go off in a city, everything slows down.
When your nervous system is overworked or underpowered, your whole body feels it.

2. Circulatory System = The Road Network

Your blood vessels are the highways and back roads.
Your heart is the main transport hub — pumping traffic (blood) that carries oxygen, nutrients, and waste.

But when there’s a “traffic jam” (like cholesterol clogging an artery), it’s Tema Motorway on Monday morning — nothing moves! People get to work late. Food and other things

3. Respiratory System = The Air Supply

Every city needs clean air and proper ventilation.
Your lungs act like giant air stations, bringing in oxygen and pushing out carbon dioxide.

If the ventilation system breaks down, the city chokes — and so do you.

4. Digestive System = The Food Market & Waste Depot

Think Makola Market!
Food comes in, gets processed, and distributed throughout the city.

Your stomach and intestines are the factories turning food into usable energy.
And like any city, if waste isn’t properly managed — the place starts to stink! And disease begin to thrive.

5. Musculoskeletal System = Buildings & Transport

Your bones are the skyscrapers, bridges, and support beams that give structure.
Your muscles are the moving trucks and construction workers that keep everything in motion.

Without strong structures, no city can function — and neither can you.

6. Immune System = Police & Soldiers

This is your city’s security force.
They patrol constantly, checking for intruders — bacteria, viruses, or rogue cells.

If the “police” are asleep when invaders strike, the city is in danger.
That’s why keeping your immunity strong is key to survival.

7. Excretory System = Sanitation & Sewage

No healthy city leaves waste lying around.
Your kidneys, liver, skin, bladder, and lymphatic system handle waste removal and detox.

If they stop working efficiently, it’s like Accra during a flood — waste everywhere and chaos follows.

In Short…!

Your body isn’t just a body — it’s an entire city under your skin.

  • Nervous system → Electricity ⚡
  • Circulatory system → Roads 🚗
  • Respiratory system → Air 🌬️
  • Digestive system → Market 🍲
  • Musculoskeletal system → Buildings 🏢
  • Immune system → Security 🛡️
  • Excretory system → Sanitation 🚮

Take care of your Body City, because unlike a real city, you can’t just pack up and move to another one!

💪 My Tip for Adults

As we grow, some of our “city departments” slow down — metabolism, circulation, and even the immune patrols.
However regular physical activity, good nutrition, and proper rest are your maintenance tools.
They keep your cells (citizens) happy, active, and loyal to the city of You!
